But each faction holds something the others cannot replace. The Imperial Nationalists have the hard-power military industrial complex itself — overseas bases, contractors, and sanctions.

Your framework does, I believe, have gradually emerging increasing explanatory power. Old paradigms are broken, but TPTB would like us to keep calculating our decisions using those paradigms so that we are low information voters and low information decision makers. So that the income generated by labour and small enterprise keeps getting harvested upwards. Having some knowledge is better than being like a stressed out member of the precariat who acts from strong emotion because of that stress! I consider my daughter to be a member of this group. I feel like if she was living in America (instead of Australia, where we are), she would just be "I'm lovin' it" for Mamdani. As for me I am just a retired man trying to be self-funded as long as possible. I am like a very small "petite bourgeoisie" no longer working but with a couple of small income streams that keep me away from the day where I finally have no choice but to ask the government for a part-pension. I do not exactly know why I so strongly dread that day - but to my mind it is definitely connected with all the matters you explore in your writings.
OK, thanks Duncan, appreciate your support and encouragement. I’m not sure where you scale yourself on the ladder? Mortgaged, extracted or disconnected? Increasingly young people are in the disconnected precariat category, my own two sons are hopefully going to escape some of that. They’re finishing up university. Remains to be seen, but hey, if you are entitled to money from the government, you should collect. We pay into it our whole lives. We deserve that pension imho. Cheers. 🍻
